Q&A
Q:What was the last limiting belief you had to overcome before taking the leap into working for yourself as a real estate agent?
A:The limiting belief that I had to overcome before taking the leap into working for myself as a real estate agent was:
Dropout = No degree = No chance of success
I grew up in the customer service (coffee) business. For as long as I can remember I witnessed my Dad make coffee and muffins something significant for others. It’s the way he made people feel. He would remember them by name and took a genuine interest in their stories. I saw these moments first hand and learned how important customer service was in life. 💗
I decided to take a Travel Counselor Course at O.U.C (I aspired to work on a cruise, in a hotel or for an airline - anything that would allow me to travel, serve others and see the world🌍). Horizon Airlines was hosting group interviews and there were over 700 applicants for 10 available positions. I was one of the 10 who got a job offer!! I had a choice to make: I could drop out of College and accept the position or stay in school and always wonder what could have happened with that opportunity. It was a huge honor to be selected however the sting of being a dropout really took its toll on me over the years. For the longest time I thought my income would be limited or somehow capped because I didn’t have that slip of paper. I wanted to advance and applied for more opportunities but my lack of degree was a huge hindrance. I felt I could be great at the positions I saw posted but I couldn’t even apply because I didn’t have the degree required for the role.
Q:How did you push past that and make the move?
A:What made me push past it was my horrible experience buying a home. I didn’t feel like anyone was educating me or advocating for me when I was a buyer so that put the “fire in my belly” to get my real estate license. I knew if I could incorporate my background in customer service, I could create a business serving people in real estate.
Q:How long after you started did it take before that limiting belief left you, or has it? Do you still have to wrestle with it sometimes?
A:It wasn’t until I was earning a certain dollar amount that it finally hit me- I could be successful without the degree.
*disclaimer- I’m a huge believer in formal education, I just didn’t feel called to it for myself. Looking back it’s because I had a learning disability and didn’t know it.
There are moments when I still feel inferior however, I feel like being in leadership for such an incredible company has given me an education that is better than any degree could have given me and for that I’m so grateful.
What’s a limiting belief that is potentially stopping YOU from going into business for yourself ?
I’d love to hear about how you’ve overcome it!

Have you ever been invited to a real estate agents retirement party?
Why do other friends retire from a 20+ year long career and get a BIG party but it’s not common for real estate agent?
In my opinion, there are many agents who are still practicing real estate today because they ABSOLUTELY LOVE what they do and those are the ones who have it figured out. The agents who I’m referring to are the ones who DON’T truly have a book of business worth selling, they feel trapped and they are financially stuck and still NEED to sell houses to make ends meet.
They have build a great business over the years however they have failed to build systems around what they do.
They don’t have a database they’ve built because it’s a mess.
They have sold a bunch of homes, but it’s not organized in a way that would communicate that it’s actually WORTH something.
I was that agent. I can remember hearing other agents talking about their databases and feeling like such a MESS! I barely had the list of emails of my clients and solely relied on my address book and contacts in my cell phone to reach out. Every time I thought of sending something by mail, I would come up with excuses because the list was so disorganized, I would get frustrated and give up.
THE GOOD NEWS: I can help! I have systems, tools and checklists that will help you truly build a business worth owning and more importantly a business worth SELLING someday.
Let’s connect. I would love to help you set up your business so you can truly leave a legacy someday.
When you feel burned out, it may be because you’re doing activities that are not in your strength zone! If you are already licensed and feeling frustrated, we should talk. There are a few quick adjustments that could reignite your passion for real estate again! I would love a chance to help you!
